先日、4歳の子どもに

「ねえ、お正月終わったら鏡餅食べるんでしょ！もう終わったよ。いつ食べるの！」

とあおられ、あわてている今日このごろです。

さて、鏡餅⇒鏡開き、を英語で説明しようと思いましたが、ネットで調べるとなんだかとても難しいので、

ここでは最低限の表現で。

Kagami-mochi is a set of rice cakes, and it is meant to be an offering to to the god in the new year.

And after the new year's days, we bring it down, cut them, and eat them, hoping to be healthy and happy throughout the year.

　鏡餅とは、正月にお供えするおもちのことです。

　お正月が終わると、それを降ろして、割って、一年の健康と幸せを願いながら食べます。

とまあ、こんな程度で充分でしょう。
